Greetings to everyone.

This is Teri-Lyn Calhoun of Heartland Deaf Center (HDC) in the Peoria, IL area. If you really know me - you would know that I hate to beg from anyone.  Heartland Deaf Center has always strived to provide services for any one that needs help without any charge.  But with the economy the way it is, I have no choice but to ask people to help. For a long time I had been using my personal laptop to conduct Heartland Deaf Center's business on it. I have already gone through two laptops to keep up with me. The second one, unfortunately, had died in April of 2009.  The monitor just quit working.  It's impossible to be able to do any work without the laptop.

So I took the laptop to the store hoping that it could be repaired.  I know that Heartland Deaf Center could afford to purchase a backup laptop to allow me to keep on helping anyone that needs the service that HDC has to offer. So I went ahead and purchased a small Toshiba model with my credit card so that I could work while waiting for an estimate on that "dead" laptop.

To my dismay I learned that it would cost over $1000 to repair the laptop. Even though it wasn't 2 years old yet, it wasn't a great idea to repair it.  This means that now I had to find a replacement for that one and I eventually purchased a HP 17" screen laptop with my credit card.

I just wanted to explain the scenario that I faced recently. Now we have two working laptops - great for one to be used for web designing, data base, etc.  The other is to be used for presentations, traveling, computer workshops and more. It helps me a great deal to know that there is a "back up" system in case one of the laptops should go bad.

Even if you wish only to donate $5.00, it would be greatly appreciated.  In the near future a new "Thank You
" web page will be created to show the list of peoples' names / organizations/business' names as well.  If a donation was received from you and you wish NOT to be listed I will treat it as an "anonymous" donor.

Here's the link to show all of what were purchased recently (mostly on my credit card) and some things that we will eventually need to have on hand.
