1st Annual Deaf-Blind Weekend Retreat

Hands-on Experience Workshop for Consumers,

Interpreters and Interpreter Training Program (ITP) Students

Description:  The Deaf-Blind workshop is designed to provide interpreters and ITP students with learning opportunities through lecture (Thursday) and hands-on experiences (Friday through Sunday).  Interpreters and ITP students will learn a variety of skills necessary when working with a person who has both vision and hearing loss.  Participants will be given the opportunity to work with several Deaf-Blind people who have diversified communication modes.  Interpreters and ITP students will learn Deaf-Blind interpreting skills while supporting Deaf-Blind persons to access workshops and fun activities.  Interpreters and ITP students will learn: sighted guide techniques, how to work with a Deaf-Blind person who uses a guide dog, interpreting techniques for Deaf-Blind campers who have a vision loss (restricted field, tracking, etc.), and tactile interpreting strategies.

Cost:   $25.00 for Deaf-Blind Persons.  Includes: 4 day hands-on learning experience 8 meals, lodging for 3 nights, crafts, and leisure activities.
